When Jacob was born, his right foot turned out to the far right and he had what is called vertical talis. He was in a cast to "correct" his foot several times in the first year of his life. They were stretching the tendons and helping the foot to turn in or stay in the center. He was such a trooper through all of it. Of course that is why they do it when the kids are so young so they don't know any different. Jake developed pretty much normally and didn't have too many issues with his foot that he could tell. He even started walking/running at 10 months. He hasn't been slowed down too much with his casts.
When Jake turned 1 they did surgery to correct the talis issue. They cut the achillies tendon and then moved the talis bone back in to place. Then they stuck a huge pin it. He was such a good. baby. We stayed at the hospital for a few days and then he wore a cast for 5 1/2 weeks. He even started to walk on the cast after a few weeks. It was so cute. He got his cast off in March and has been cruising all over again. He doesn't walk totally normal but he is getting around pretty quickly. He wears a little walking shoe/brace thingy and sounds like he has heels on. I am so proud of how fast he has healed and what a good sport he has been. Oh how we love this baby.
